  1. Your Google Business Profile gets optimized. A complete, verified profile with the right categories, service areas, photos, and hours makes you eligible for the map pack — the three businesses Google shows first. This is the single highest-impact step.
  2. You show up in the map pack. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance, and prominence. Strong on-profile signals and consistent information push you into those top three spots where most clicks happen.
  3. Location pages back it up. Pages targeting the cities you serve (for example, a page for each county or key city) tell Google where you operate and give searchers a reason to choose you.
  4. Reviews build trust and rankings. A steady flow of genuine reviews improves both how you rank and how many people click. Responding to them signals an active, real business.
  5. Citations keep your info consistent. Your name, address, and phone number listed the same way across directories reinforce that you're legitimate and located where you say.
  6. Leads come in. Calls, form fills, and direction requests arrive from people already close and ready. Good conversion tracking shows which searches produced them so the work compounds.

What to fix first

If you're starting from scratch, the order that produces leads fastest is: claim and fully optimize your Google Business Profile, get your first handful of reviews, make sure your website clearly states the areas you serve, then build out a page for each priority city or county. Chasing links or blog content before the profile is dialed in is a common way to waste money.
